FAQ

What are the differences between a sea cruise and a river cruise?

Sea cruises often take place on larger ships, with a multitude of onboard activities (swimming pools, casinos, shows) and calls at exotic ports. As for river cruises, the boats are generally smaller, with the emphasis on discovering inland landscapes, historic towns and picturesque villages.

Are cruises suitable for families with children?

Yes, many cruise lines offer activities and services for families and children, including kids' clubs, special entertainment and adapted excursions. However, it's important to check the specific offers of each company, as some cruises are more suitable for adults or couples.

What's included in the price of a cruise?

Do I need to book as soon as possible?

It's better to book your cruise in advance, especially if you're leaving in high season (summer, school vacations). This will enable you to choose your preferred cabin and avoid unpleasant surprises, such as limited availability of cabins or popular excursions. Booking early may also enable you to take advantage of special offers.

What types of cabins are available on board?

Cruises offer a range of cabins to suit all budgets, from windowless interior cabins to luxurious suites with balconies. You can choose a cabin according to your comfort preferences and budget. Some cruises also offer options accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Are there any activities on board during the cruise?

Yes, cruise ships offer a wide range of activities: shows, concerts, sports, conferences, cooking classes, casinos, spas, gyms, and sometimes even sea excursions such as snorkeling or diving. River cruises often have a quieter atmosphere, with more intimate discovery activities and entertainment. In both cases, there's always a gala evening!

Can I use the Internet on board?

Most cruises offer Wi-Fi, but it can be expensive and sometimes of variable quality, especially at sea. River cruises generally have a better signal, but it's best to check connection options before you go if you need the Internet for business or personal reasons.

What to do if you get seasick

Seasickness is rare but more frequent on sea cruises, especially in rough weather. If you're sensitive, there are over-the-counter seasickness remedies, or acupressure bracelets. Cruise lines also offer areas of the ship where movement is less perceptible (e.g., amidships, on the lowest decks); there's also an infirmary and doctor on board. On river cruises, ship motion is generally less pronounced.

Do I have to pay tips during the cruise?

Gratuities are not always included in the price of the cruise. Some companies include tips in the price of the cruise, while others suggest an amount to be paid at the end of the stay. Gratuities vary in amount, but in general, tips for crew (waiters, cabin crew) are appreciated and are around €10-15 per passenger per day. In any case, no change is exchanged on board; you will be given a rechargeable card.

What can I take with me on a cruise?

In general, it's advisable to pack light, comfortable clothes for the day, as well as more elegant outfits for evenings on board. Check the cruise line's dress code, as some require evening wear for formal meals. Don't forget essential items such as medication, sun protection and, of course, your passport or identity card.

What are the best destinations for a first cruise?

The best destinations for a first cruise depend on your interests. For a sea cruise, itineraries such as the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or the Norwegian fjords are very popular. For a river cruise, the Seine, Danube or Rhône offer superb itineraries for discovering history and culture while enjoying a natural setting.
